Hi folks, Here it is - the May 2011 update to the BrailleNote PbWorks site. In this version:
* Resets: The "Exploring Resets" article has new information on so-called "cautionary" resets found on the Apex, as well as clear warning on these resets. These include Clean Reset and Flash Disk Format. The article can be found at: http://braillenote.pbworks.com/w/page/10477597/Exploring-Resets Again, our (experts') usual caution on resets applies: DO NOT PERFORM RESETS (especially the cautionary resets) AT WRONG TIMES!!!!! We don't want to see accidental loss of data because you misused the instructions on these resets. Thus, as we always say: please consult HW staff and other users before attempting any of them, and please backup important data before doing the ultimate one (disk format). * Actioning email links: The article has been updated extensively to discuss the second method that we've discussed a few weeks ago (that of using an undocumented command to "click" on a link). The instructions can be found at: http://braillenote.pbworks.com/w/page/10477581/Actioning-links-in-email-message On a sort of related note (to be included in the future update to the site): * BN's power switch: When you turn off your unit, you are not actually turning off the unit - you are putting your unit into standby mode, which explains why it can alert you on alarms. * Turning off your unit: There is a way to "really' turn off your unit like you would shutdown a computer. (not availible on Classic) All of them involves either holding down certain keys or activating some setting item. On the PK, hold down C1 (far left control) and C4 (far right control) for about three seconds; it will turn off, sounding a high-low beep and displaying the words, "Off". To turn on the unit, hold down C1 and C4 again for about three seconds. On the mPower, to turn off your unit (or, as HW documentation says, "put it into deep sleep mode), from anywhere in KeySoft, go to Options Menu/Support Information Mode then press H (for hibernate). BrailleNote will ask you if you wish to proceed with this. Anser yes, and the unit will tell you that, the next time you flip the power switch to "off" position, your unit will shutdown completely (or, as KeySoft puts it, "put it into deep sleep mode"). This completely turns off hardware including processor and memory. To turn on your unit, perform Service Reset (Reset and Record button, as it'll power on the hardware components). On the Apex, from Main Menu, go to Utilities/Miscellaneous Options. The second item asks whether to put your unit in deep sleep mode (which essentially means shutting down your unit). Answer Yes to turn off your unit or press N or ENTER to move on. Upon confirmation, the unit will shutdown, first turning off the braille display, then powering down other hardware components. To turn on your unit, either connect the AC adapter, perform a warm reset (press Reset button), flip the power switch to "off" and then "on" position or remove and insert the battery. * When you "switch tasks," you are essentially using different parts of KeySoft. In other words, it is not in a sense of switching from one program (executable) to another - just different parts of keysoft.exe (exceptions include media player and IE mobile/keyWeb). I think that should cover majority of what we've discussed here. Hope you find it useful. Cheers, Joseph ___ Replies to this message will go directly to the sender.
