Hi Barb, When you turn on your bn just hit the letter i from the main menu and you should be at the internet option and will be asked for the address you want. You can accept the default or just overtype with the net address you do want and press enter.
You'll be asked which connection to use so choose the one you want, press enter, and you're off! No need to do a thing with email. Quite often if I want to test a particular connection such as a dialup or my infrared on the cell phone, I'll use the internet connect rather than email as it's usually much faster for me anyway.
