Hello Peter:

I have the GPS version 2 for my voicenote QT and have had it for over 6
months now. Yes, once your over the training curve, it is very worth your
purchase. I utilize mine on a daily basis both on and off campus. At the
recent C-Sun conference, I hit the ground running with many points of
reference and address locations available making me look like a seasoned
LA-traveler, when in truth, I hadn't visited that city in about 5 years.

I travel with a dog guide and find this technology enhances my work with
him. I can home in on a particular address and once within the 50 foot
target range to the door that I've put in as a wave point on an earlier
visit, simply give him the "Inside" command and we're off and running.

I road with a friend this morning to an address we'd never visited before,
but she new of my GPS system. She actually asked me to come along with her
because I might have better luck in finding the address. Now how often does
that happen?? When your asked to be the navigator for a sighted driver
and can be accurate within 100 feet just by entering a complete street
address and having GPS drop a way point and then simply navigating to it.

As stated above, there is a learning curve involved. If you've never had
access to maps and navigation, then you will have a whole new set of terms
and concepts to learn. But, if you start simple, i.e. marking locations
around your house and neighborhood and building up from there to getting off
the plane in new strange cities and having an instant working knowledge of
the landmarks around you. You will enjoy the trip (Literally). I will tell
you though, that knowing exactly where you are, becomes very addictive. I've
gotten to the point where I carry several sets of spare batteries around
just to make sure that my GPS is ALWAYS available.

The only unusual reaction I've gotten is from those people whom I pass who
see me approach, notice the dog, notice the GPS on my shoulder and just have
to ask "How do you see your GPS??" So, be prepared to educate as people are
fascinated by a blind man or woman navigating unaided. To say the least, I
am very happy with my purchase and would be happy to answer any questions
that you might have either on or off list. You can reach me privately at

Hope this helps
