Hi Penny,

If you have KS5.0 you can read more about the support information mode under
section 2.5.1 of the User Guide. I think it is Appendix F in an earlier
version.

There is no exact moment when you need to get a new battery as in reaching a
certain measurement or figure. However, the NMH batteries usually last
around 2 years. So it sounds like you are due to have a new one replaced.
However, you will continue to get some life out of your BN battery until you
are able to send it in.

In relation to the battery guage, I quote from some previous messages posted
on this list:

The capacity inaccurate count increases by 1 each time a
partial discharge occurs and if this count reaches 64 the fuel gauge is
deemed inaccurate. It doesn't mean that it is necessarily inaccurate, or
that there is something wrong with the battery, or that partial discharges
are bad, it just means that the fuel gauge has not been able to calibrate
itself for a while and therefore cannot be sure of the capacity it is
displaying. The way to calibrate it again is to fully charge the battery
and use the BrailleNote until it switches itself off. There are several
ways of speeding up a complete discharge, including using the "Flatten
battery" mode, SPACE with O, SPACE with I, F (these are BT commands).

Apart from occasionally letting the battery fully discharge, the battery
and its charger are designed to be fully automatic and look after
themselves. The support information commands were primarily designed for
use during production testing as well as by service personnel.
