Before transferring files from the Braille 'n Speak to the BrailleNote, make
sure that files written in contracted Braille have the .brf extension while
those written in computer Braille have the .txt extension. If you have the
SuperDisk drive for the BrailleNote, then save your Braille 'n Speak files to a
floppy and just copy them into the BrailleNote using the Copy File option in
the File Manager (please read section 13.7 if you have a BrailleNote with the
Braille keyboard, the section for the qwerty-style model may be different but
won't be far from 13.7).
If you can get these files in your PC, use ActiveSync via serial, ethernet, or
infrared connection (read 14.2 and Appendix G).

Once you have the files in your BrailleNote, you should be able to open and
read them just fine. When you press ENTER to open a .txt or .brf file, you
will be asked if you wish to review the options. Type Y for yes, and move
through the items in the list where you will be placed. Two items there ask
whether you wish to use line or paragraph format when opening and saving the
document. Set it to Line format by pressing L, and then hit ENTER. Use Line
format for both opening and saving the document. In this way, the carriage
returns in your Braille 'n Speak files will be retained. Exit this list of
settings and enter the file by pressing SPACE with E (ESCAPE).

I suggest that you save these files as Keyword type documents so they would not
be considered foreign Braille or text documents by the BrailleNote. To do
this, once you've opened the file and set the Line Format as described above,
press SPACE with X (READ with X) twice. Then exit the file by pressing SPACE
with E (ESCAPE). You will be prompted that the file has been modified, but
don't worry, you did not really change anything, yet the SPACE with X (READ
with X) command toggled the review mode on and off, and the BrailleNote
considers that a modification of sorts.
Anyway, you will be asked if you wish to save the file as a Keyword document.
Type Y for yes, and enter a file name. You will be asked next if you wish to
open the file after saving, and you can either type Y for yes or N for no.

When you're sure that the Keyword version of the document is saved (you can see
it in the file list bearing the file name you give it which could be the same
as the .brf or .txt file yet with no extension), you can delete the .brf or
.txt file using the Erase File option in the File Manager.

Roselle
