Hi Richard,

Maurice and I did briefly look into this problem before the company closed
for the year. We weren't immediately able to recreate the problem being
experienced, though we are aware of the difficulties that did exist with
freeing database space.

Again, we're not sure why you are experiencing this problem and if your
BrailleNote is on loan to you, it would be hard to try and resolve the
problem without knowing the BrailleNote's full history.

As a last resort, I would totally wipe the flash disk and start over again
but I realise there are files you don't want to touch. Note that I wouldn't
normally recommend this drastic measure but as I say, you don't know the
full history of the BrailleNote if the unit is on loan to you.

I see Roselle has posted a more recent message on this thread and I'm not
sure I can add anything else.

I'll be heading back to PDI next week so I'll be sure to let you and the
list know of anything new on this issue that should come to light then.

Subject: [Braillenote] problem with freeing database space and
unzippingfiles

> Hi list,
> I have sent messages about my first problem with freeing database space to
Dean, but, as he is on vacation, I have not heard back from him yet.
> Maybe someone on the list has had this problem also though, and could help
me out.
> I am using a loner bn bt with ks 5 while waiting for funding to become
available for me to get my unit updated with new motherboard and ks 5.
> The problem I am having is that when I try to free database space in my
email, it works after a reset once, and then, if I need to do it again after
emptying trash, the bn says "Freeing database space." as it usually does,
beeps for a while, then says "Cannot create a file that already exists and
puts me back in the keymail setup menu.
> The other problem I will not write to Dean about, because as Roselle said,
this was never actually designed as a part of ks 5, but if Dean has found
out something about this, or if anyone else has I'd be glad of an answer.
> When I downloaded 2 public domain books from bookshare, whose website I
just looked at yesterday I did what Roselle suggested and all went well for
the first book. (it only unpacked one.) but when I tried unpacking the
second, the book reader just put me at the top of the zipped file and
spouted jibberish.
> It also renamed the file something like pk multiple character wildcard.
> It said on the bookshare list that because this book was not copyrighted
you did not need to be a member of bookshare and the book was not password
protected.
> No matter what I did, I could not get it to unpack the second book.
> The book I tried to unpack is "Robur the Conqueror" by Jewles Verne.
> My wife installed an unpacking tool on our pc and we unpacked the book and
stored it on my compacked flash with the aid of a card reader.
> Thank you all for your help.
