Hello Everyone: Reading the posts about lost data brings to mind something that may be of interest. Whether it applys to anyone here is unknown, but this should be of interest.
I often travel by train, bus, & subway. I have had data disappear, unexplainably, on several occasions. The first time this happened was over 20 years ago, an audio tape containing a take home exam. My professor was not real understanding. I think a story about my dog eating it would have done better. This happened several times, for no apparent reason. What someone suggested was that the tape had been erased while I was on the subway. Subways, & trains, have large electric motors, & breaks, under the cars. These operate in different ways, at different times. Depending upon where you sit in relation to them, may place you in a large electromagnetic field when they start, or stop. Nobody from the transit authority, or railroad, has ever been willing to confirm, or deny, this theory. Today I was sitting next to a man on the commuter train, who was cursing his PDA. It seems that some of his files had gone away during the day. He told me that he had has this problem, & that he has learned not to sit near the end of the car, rather in the middle, thereby avoiding the major portion of these magnetic fields. He has some of the same convictions as I do, but he also has had no luck confirming it. He did tell me though, that there are signs warning folks about extremely high voltages under the trains. These aren't subways, rather the bigger ones. Anyway, just some food for thought. This may not be a problem unique to the BN, there may be some company here. I know that I have had disks effected in the past, & haven't really thought why. If I understand you correctly, then I must say this can indeed be done, especially for web pages. You can change the destination drive and folder for a web page being saved. As for stuff downloaded from a site, it's only in version 5 that one is able to choose a folder and drive other than the Downloads folder in the Flash Disk. > > As for e-mails, if you're within a message being read, and press CTRL (SPACE) with S you can select a different drive and folder (press BACKSPACE to get to the folder prompt, and another BACKSPACE for the drive prompt) to save it to a cf or storage card. But if you meant that the e-mails received are first saved in the database that resides in the Keylist folder of the Flash Disk, then you're right about this point. > > BTW, a problem with exporting .brf files to any foreign text document in version 5 is that it doesn't work. The user only gets a file with new line markers and nothing else. I have reported this to Dean Jackson, however, and it has been duly logged in their database of bugs to be fixed, hopefully may I add. Thus, if the user downloaded a book in BRF format, and made revisions to that file (such as putting in some notes or markers on parts that will be referred to again or quoted in a book report), then it is wise to convert the .brf file to a Keyword type Braille document first, make the revisions there, and then use the Export File option under the Translation Menu to convert it to a .txt, .rtf, .doc, or .wp5 file. > > HTH, > Roselle > > >----- QUOTED MESSAGE ----- > >Sent by: "Terri Pannett" <[EMAIL PROTECTED] > > >Dear List, > > >I create all my KeyWord documents on a CompactFlash card.
