Dennis,

Using the Directory option of the File Manager, and pressing SPACE with X (READ
with X) at the file name prompt to view all, including hidden, files, check if
you have the file Address List in the Keylist folder, and the file Email
Folders in the Keymail folder. Note that there should be no .cdb extension.
The .cdb files are different, though they have the same names as those whose
extensions are not shown. Actually, the files that do not show any extension
are .klt (Keylist definition files) and they're the ones you really need in
your BN to make Keylist and Keymail work.
The .cdb files contain your data (contacts and e-mails), but you seem to have a
problem in that area so if you see Address List.cdb or Keylist.cdb or Email
Folders.cdb from either the Keylist or Keymail folder, erase them, and
double-check because they tend to linger after the first attempt to erase.

Now, if you do not see the files simply named Address List in the Keylist
folder, and Email Folders in the Keymail folder, copy them from the Windows
folder of the Keysoft Systems Disk. Remember, Address List goes to the Keylist
folder and Email Folders goes to the Keymail folder on your Flash Disk.
Actually, I suggest that even though you see those files in these folders, copy
them still from the Windows folder of the Keysoft Systems Disk (remember to
have all, including hidden, files showing so that you can find them in that
folder) and replace the ones you may already have in the Flash Disk. It's
possible that you have corrupted Keylist definition files.

After copying these two files, return to the Main Menu. Enter Keymail (press
E) and select the Write an Email option (press W). You SHOULD (and I stress on
SHOULD but if not then read on) receive the prompt telling you that no
associated database exists and asking you if you wish to create one. Type Y
for yes and wait until you are told that the database file has been created.
See if you can use Keymail properly.
Note that this is an empty database so only the default folders (Inbox, Outbox,
Sent, Received, All, Drafts and Trash) are there, empty of course. If you try
to connect to your ISP and you cannot choose the directory of service, then you
must create that account again by going into the Keymail Setup Menu (press S)
and enter the Directory of Services menu (press D).

If you are not prompted about creating a database, then exit Keymail, and go
into the File Manager, Directory option, once more. Select the Flash Disk and
the Dictionaries folder. Press SPACE with X (READ with X) to have all,
including hidden, files listed. Navigate to the file called Keysoft.ksd.
Press BACKSPACE with C (CTRL with I) to erase it and type Y to confirm
deletion. As soon as it is erased, press RESET with no keys held down (no need
to return to the Main Menu).
Doing this will reinitialize your BN and revert all settings to the factory
defaults. You will not lose any files but will need to configure all settings
once more as if you just received your BN and took it out of the box. This
includes speech and Braille display settings, the clock and calendar, internet
options, the entries in the Address List under the Keymail Setup Menu, etc.,
etc. When you've configured everything to your liking again, check if you can
now use Keymail. If so, then exit to the Main Menu, press A to enter the
Keylist Menu, type A as though to add a record, and you SHOULD receive the
prompt that no associated database exists and you would be asked if you wish to
create it. Reply with Y for yes and wait until you are told that it is
created, at which point, press SPACE with E (ESCAPE) to exit.

I hope this will help straighten things out, Dennis, but if you can get tech
support from folks at PDI in NZ (I'm not sure how good is PDI tech support
locally in the UK), then so much the better. In fact, if this suggestion of
deleting the Keysoft.ksd file still doesn't work, then I think you really need
to get in touch by phone with tech support specialists so that they can better
guide you through the sorting out of your BN problems.

HTH,
Roselle
