Hi: - Jonathan was just reminding folks that this is a list for the BN
usage. You certainly wouldn't go on a Microsoft list site, and then
start asking questions for the Apple, or on HP help. Or perhaps you'd
go on a Disney listServe, and then start inquiring about Universal
Studios. The reminder had no implication about being discriminatory
about one's blindness ability on one's freedom of speech. However, the
main purpose of this listserve is to help BN users to share ideas, share
helpful tips, and help provide PDI with feedback for future improvements
with their product. All the best. - Kim

Richard,

I too belong to a number of lists, and none of them refuse the kind of
orientation that the original writer was seeking. It is, as you know,
quite reasonable for a blind person to ask directions, thank the person
and move on. Without that ability, none of us would get anywhere no
matter how good our dogs are.

This was what Jonathan was saying to this person. We can ask everybody
else for help and not our fellow blind? I don't THINK so!!!

Gary

I belong to a number of lists. Each of them has a specific topic.
And,
in every case, if those who are posting to the list submit off-topic
messages, they are usually advised to either stop the thread or to
write
to each other off the list. This is not intended as some form of
punishment, it is simply that if you are attempting to maintain a list
whose purpose is to discuss a very specific topic (such as the
Braillenote family of products) that is what the list is designed to
do.
There are many lists whose purpose is to discuss other blindness
and/or
  assistive technology related topics.

  Good Gary;
I was thinking about responding to Jonathon, but hadn't gotten to it.
  At
least the writer stated to write to him directly about the non BN
topic.
  I
see nothing wrong with a question like that. It was blind related.
It
  was
not like asking about cars on a blind related list.
Jonathon, did you ever think that this person may not belond to any
  other
list serve that the BN group. Does that mean he has to join another
  group
just to ask a simple question? I say NO!

Oh Jonathan! Someone who is blind and a Braillenote user needed help.
  Please
don't tell me that PDI is so cheap with it's bandwidth that someone
  can't
ask for help to be given off list! Please give it a rest! Someone
asked
  a
two part question, part of which had to do witht he Braillenote; the
  other
part called on those of us who know things. He looked in a place where
  he
was likely to get the help he needed.

If this list can't afford this kind of input, then I have to wonder
how
selfish the loss of our sight has made us.

  Earnestly contending,

  Gary

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the
  rulers,
against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against
  the
spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take
  up
the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil
  day,
and having done everything, to stand firm. (Ephesians 6:12-13 NAS95)

Richard, if your question doesn't concern the BrailleNote, then it
shouldn't be posted to this list as this is the BrailleNote list.
  There
are many other lists where talk of a general technological nature is

    appropriate. Thanks for your consideration.
