Dear Maria,

The fonts do work in braille documents, at least for the QT model. I just
opened a braille document and I added the italic font to see if I could add
a font to a braille document. The format indicator didn't show in the
layout mode but it did in the editing mode. I saw more format indicators in
the editing mode than I did in the layout mode. The layout is supposed to
show documents as they will appear on paper, but I find it to be more
confusing in the BN. This is partly because a print line will take more
than one display length. Also, I am more used to the wysiwyg method of
showing layouts that is, "what you see is what you get."

I have not tried this out, but I wonder why a person couldn't export a term
paper as a Word document and email it as an attachment to a teacher. All of
the formatting should remain intact, if it's sent as an attachment.

: This is correct, but I just want to add some additional comments. The
"Font" option of the Format Menu is only available in text documents. I
believe you use dots 4-6 at the beginning of a word to italicize it, and you
put dots 4-5-6 in front of a word to underline it in Grade 2 Braille, but
I'm not sure. Also, there is an option called "Underline" in the Format
Menu of a text document. You can then follow Terri's instructions as to how
to enable and disable it. In the "Printers" folder on the KeySoft System
Disk, there are files which contain information about supported printers.
Open the appropriate file to find out what letters equal which font. To set
a different printer type, go to any place in KeySoft where you can print,
such as KeyWord, and select the option to print. When you're at the "Print
or Set-Up Printer", press S for Setup. SPACE through the list until you get
to the item that says "Printer Type? (printer type) Change?", where (printer
type) is the a!
: ctual type of the printer you have set. Press Y to answer Yes to the
"Change?" question, and after pressing ENTER, you'll be asked the Printer
Type. Press SPACE until you get to HP Deskjet and Laserjet or whatever type
you want, then press ENTER. Exit by pressing SPACE with E and Confirm
Changes by answering Yes to the prompt. You'll be returned to the "Print or
Set-Up" prompt, so you can either press S to re-enter the Set-Up List, P to
Print, or SPACE with E to exit the prompt. The HP has the most fonts, so
you'd probably want to change to this type as Terri suggests. Now, you can
open the proper document in the location mentioned above (KeySoft System,
Printers), and read the letters associated with fonts, and you can then use
them in the "Font" option of the Format Menu (but remember, it's ONLY
AVAILABLE IN TEXT DOCUMENTS). I'll paste the HP file here, but you can
always look at it in your system when you want to. The section of the
document you want is called "T!
: ype Styles", but it also might be useful for you to read the entire do
: cument to ensure proper set-up in the Printer Set-Up List, and therefore
produce the best result of your document. HTH.

: Printer DIP switch settings
: On printers that have dip-switches, make sure that switches 6 and 8 of
the left hand dip switch are in the up position. The dip switches are
located on the front of the printer at the bottom right corner.
: If you are using Abled paper
: If you are using Abled size paper, you may wish to set the default page
length of Keysoft to 70 lines. This will give you 4 extra lines of print
per printed page, however it is not necessary to change from the normal
default setting of 66 lines. To change the default page setting to 70 lines
per page, go into the Printer Set-up List and set the Paper Length setting
to 70.
