What makes braille difficult today is textbooks must be transcribed imitating every symbol used in the sighted textbooks. We have to read a whole bunch of gobbledegook to learn math like arrows and graphics and different kinds of lines and I can't remember all the stuff I saw within that transcriber's book. Most of us will never remember or use all that stuff once the math class is over.
I went to school in the late 50-s and 60's and 70's and I'm positive I didn't learn most of the symbols found in today's transcriber's Nemeth code book. I'll bet most sighted students could care less what the book looks like and they just look at it and work the problems. I know some have criticized the BN's calculator for not being advanced enough, but it suits me just fine. I only need it for basic arithmetic. Terri Pannett, Amateur Radio call sign KF6CA.
