The same thing happened to mine.  I ended up having to have the Braille 
display replaced.  I found a very temporary work-around which may or may not 
work on your unit:  I let the unit discharge fully, until the Braille and 
speech both stopped completely, then recharged it.  Sometimes this made my 
Braille display operate again, until it crashed the next time.

This past summer my braille display stopped working for (apparently) no
reason, I was in the middle of typing something and it just died. The speech
worked fine, just no braille. When I tried to turn braille on I got the
message "The braille display is not operating." It turned out to be a
problem with the motherboard, which had to be replaced.
