Hmmm, I thought I remembered reading on this list that it didn't matter
whether you freeded database space via email or via the address list, that
it freed both regardless of which method you used. Is this incorrect?

database space was only necessary if you were not downloading roughly the
same amount of email regularly. For example, if you normally download, read
and delete about ten messages a day then the space left after deleting would
be taken up by the next download. Whereas if you then go on leave and come
back to download 100 messages, read and delete them, then you are left with
more memory space being unused until you download a large number again. I
thought it was in these cases that freeing database space is the most
relevant.
In terms of the purpose and most appropriate time for freeing the database
space in the address list, then that is a separate issue.
