Hi all,
I thought some of you might find this interesting. After I wrote the
message about my lost data which contained two chapters of my electronic
book, I tried putting the flash card back into the card reader and looking
at the files that I could not read on the BrailleNote. The files are still
there, the same byte total as they were when I first copied them on to my
flash card. The problem is, whatever occurred on the BrailleNote made it
impossible for the file to open either on the BrailleNote or in Microsoft
word itself on my computer. When I tried to open the file in Word, I got a
message that there was not enough disk or memory to open the file, and my
only choice was to select the okay button and then after this if was placed
into a blank document.
So, apparently, the data was not exactly lost, but the files were
definitely corrupted in some manner. I recopied the files to my flash card,
and both my card reader and the BrailleNote can read them again.
The only problem left to resolve is why the Wordpad converter comes up
whenever I open these Word 97 files. It did not happen when I was using
Keysoft 5.1, but now whenever I bring up these electronic book files which
are saved in Word 97 format, I get a message that the "Wordpad converter
does not recognize this file" and then after the BrailleNote makes a bonging
sound, and then file opens normally. As I've said, these files opened just
fine with Keysoft 5.1, and I've verified from the publisher that they are
Word 97 files.
If anyone has any suggestions to help these files from getting
corrupted, I would appreciate them. The problem occurs sometimes merely
from exiting one file and opening another, when I go back to the first file,
it is blank on the BrailleNote with no error message given.
I know all of this might be a bit confusing, if clarification is needed,
please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks,
Beth
