Hello Sabahattin
I'm not ignoring your mesage, smile. The developer I need to consult
regarding this email has been away this week but I'll try and get a full
answer/explanation on this for you next week.
However, what I can tell you is that yes, you can type an ip address at the
network server prompt but what I'm not clear about and will check when I
have a PK in front of me, is whether an external IP address will work.

Subject: [Braillenote] RAS Connections To ActiveSync Host,Sharing By DNS
Hostname Over Dialup
Hi all,
Just out of geekish curiosity, I tried to make ActiveSync connect to my PC
running public on a cable modem connection from a dial-up connection on
another ISP over TCP/IP. Of course it goes without saying that I
configured the BrailleNote to take an IP address and nameservers
dynamically and provided my machine for WINS and connection with
bnipconfig and then reset, dialed up (by checking my email), then
connected to ActiveSync after having chosen "Ethernet" in the ActiveSync
connection type. Sadly, this brilliant masterplan didn't work, as it
seems this results in opening an ethernet connection rather than actually
using the existing TCP/IP connection, resulting in an error to the effect
that multihoming is not permitted - that only one connection must run at
once. Dammit, PulseData!
So then, I have questions:
1. I want to do this! Just think of the potential. It seems this is a
luxury Windows CE users already have and it isn't far off - I could
probably do it with time by messing with the registry, but I'd like this
to be a feature. They can choose RAS ("Dial-up") as the ActiveSync
connection, and I would like to, too. This means I can synchronise on the
road! Can I, with the latest release, per tenuous chance?
2. I wonder, can I type a DNS hostname (EG host.example.org) or IP
address (EG 192.0.2.123) into the "Server" prompt for network resource
sharing, instead of typing a NetBIOS flat name? If so, can this possibly
mean I could connect to my home machine remotely to do network
manipulation? Finally, and this is the important bit, can sharing be done
over the dial-up link? I would really, really like it if you could!
Cheers,
Sabahattin
