I have to agree here, I don't want my keyboard higher, and in fact, my
desk at home and at work has a keyboard tray so my computer keyboard is
lower, I put the BN on the desk above the keyboard and have used it as a
braille display for the computer often, checking when I feel I need to
do so, or re-reading documents before I have completed the editing
process.

I did not like some of the larger braille displays I saw with the
keyboard supposedly on top of them. I spend my whole day typing, I
cannot tolerate the keyboard being raised higher, too much strain on
arms and shoulders.

PDI, just so you know, I still absolutely love my Braille Notes, one of
them is with me almost constantly, and although it sounds frivolous to
have two, I got my original in January 2001 and a second in October last
year, it isn't for me, one mostly is my work BN, with files related to
my job, the other is on my desk at home and goes with me on trips away
from home often, both have their fair share of novels etc. for times
when I am stuck waiting at offices, appointments etc. The best thing,
if one should not be functioning all it would take is moving the card to
the other and I will not be without when the malfunctioning one is in
for repairs.

I only wish these had been available 30 years ago when I was struggling
to take notes with a slate and stylus in college.

Improve on what we have if you can, but the design isn't a problem for
me.

I'd like to make one more point. I have used braille displays for
years, and I don't like putting a display under the PC keyboard because
it raises the keyboard to a higher level and I find it to be more tiring
to type with a raised keyboard. Also, the keyboard moves too easily and
it sticks out, making it easier to knock around.

No, no! Keep the BrailleNote as it is!

: Hi.
: The excellence of a detachable braille display comes in when one
: wants to use the braille display with the computer. At the moment, I
find
: the braillenote nearly unusable with the computer as a braille
display. Not
: only can I not use it with my laptop (the unit doesn't have a serial
port
: and, for some reason, hates any USB to serial converter I try to plug
into
: it), but I can't use it at all efficiently with my desktop. The BN I
have
: has a QT keyboard. I can neither put my desktop's keyboard on top of
it, for
: fear of pressing its keys, nor move my hands back and forth from the
display
: to the keyboard, as this would decrease my speed while typing to a
snail's
: pace, and editing is just as difficult. The only way which is close to
: satisfactory to use the thing is on a table with two levels, and even
that
: isn't totally satisfactory, as moving from the board to the display is
a
: pain, though a reduced one.
: With the Pacmate's detachable braille display, one can easily place
: the keyboard on it and any other support and move back and forth
quickly.
: Anyone want a BN QT 32 with the latest updates, lightly used?

: yeah, I guess you're all right. After all, while the braillenote's
away I'll
: still have my old artic notetaker. It doesn't have windows and cannot
do
: email or web browsing but at least I have something to use until the
: braillenote gets back. I think maybe I should learn to buy myself more
audio
: books on cd instead of relying so heavily on the braille display.
maybe then
: it would last longer?
