Hi Paul,

Unfortunately it isn't that simple!

Because only certain cards will work, (and obviously it is impossible to test all the cards on the market), it makes it a bit of a dangerous road to travel. If the image does not burn correctly, you're kind of up the river without a paddle and obviously to correct the error, depending on what happened, it would be very likely that you'd need to send the BrailleNote back to us. If this wasn't necessary, it would certainly make support staff unavailable for hours at a time.

Because there are also a number of files involved in the upgrade, troubleshooting any problems experienced by users could be made a lot harder if all the necessary files weren't copied to the card in the first place and probably more importantly, could result in the databases not converting correctly, resulting in lost data.

Hi, Dean. Just for my own curiosity! Couldn't you just teach the user how to format the disk or is there something else that has to be there? Admittedly, I didn't search my card for hidden files. But if it is a question of formatting with fat 16 or 32 versus ntfs or something. I just thought that for these guys who got their bn with 6.1 and no disk that you could give them instructions privately on how to format so they could then upgrade with the download rather than waiting for a flash card to arrive. I am not trying to be difficult or anything; just interested as another techy.
Thanks.

Hi list,

The upgrade should only be copied and used on cards that we send you, as the card must meet certain requirements and formatting conditions before Iboot, which is the software that starts before the operating system, will read it
and upgrade the software.

The other reason it's important to only use cards we recommend, is that if
something fails, you have no way of reversing the changes, since all changes
are taking place in ROM.
