That is what everyone has been doing.
No they don't. They leave the name of the person whose post they're replying to in their email, they call each other names. I may offend some people by criticizing their ideas or by slamming the entire right wing, but I never mention the name of anyone on this list in my posts. I don't know anyone on this list, never met anyone on this list in real life, don't like or dislike anyone on this list personally (how could I?) I think there's a lot of name-calling going on and it pisses me off. I think we'd all be happier if none of us ever responded to anyone's post by mentioning names. Unless you really know the person you're responding to and are not intentionally demeaning them.
However, by "slamming the entire right wing" you are slamming the individuals on the list who happen to identify more with the right wing position than the left wing one on many issues (whether they call themselves "right wing" or not). It can come across as a slam that is just as offensive as if the person were identified by name, perhaps more so, because it seems like a "passive-aggressive" attack or like talking about a person in front of him/her in the third person as though s/he cannot hear (read) what is being said about him/her. Please forgive me for getting personal to make a point, but if someone posted "All liberals are . . . " or "All Jews are . . . ," I expect that you would be personally offended, even though you were not specifically mentioned by name in the post.
In this case, it seems that we *all* agree that employers stealing from employees by electronically modifying their payroll records is wrong, a crime, reprehensible, unethical, immoral, evil, sinful, and so on. There does not seem to be any disagreement on that. Everyone who has replied seems to be wondering why President Bush's name was in the subject line. As Julia suggested, if you wanted a discussion about what can be done to stop employers from cheating their employees, you should have used a subject line that reflected that instead of a non sequitur about President Bush.
Maybe it would be nice if each of us was to consider the feelings of the fellow list members who may read our posts rather than attempting to score points by deliberately being as provocative as we can when we write them.
