What I mean by "follow your own voice" is to define for yourself what it means to be faithful and Christian. Obviously to be a Christian you would have to be a follower of the teachings and philosophy of Jesus. No, I think that's not enough, otherwise Muslims - who claim to follow the teachings and philosophy of Jesus, the penultimate Prophet - would be Christians.
That could be resolved if Christians are those who believe that Jesus was the last prophet. Since Muslims believe Muhammad superseded Jesus they are not Christians.
This does mean that the LDS are not Christians...maybe Smithians :)
Latter-day Saints do not worship Joseph Smith or believe that he atoned for our sins as Christ did.
Muslims don't worship Muhammad or believe that he atoned for anyone's sins. They just believe that the angel Gabriel gave him the info for the Koran. Like Moroni gave Joseph Smith some stuff. The ambiguity is inherent in the situation.
