So, short of allowing Israel to be wiped out and all Jews to finally be exterminated, what does he (or anyone else who feels the same way) suggest that the US do?
Well I can tell you what I would have done four years ago. Exercise patience. Feed the peace process. Set a good example. Offer a helping hand wherever and whenever possible. Keep putting people that hate each other in a room together and ask them if they really want their grandchildren to keep killing each other.
Persevere.
Much of the progress we had made is like so much effluent now though. It will be decades before we can bring the peace process back to where it was when Clinton left office. And that's with a dedicated effort. Years of tireless diplomacy down the tubes.
Instead, Bush and company have elevated radical Islam from a fringe group to near mainstream status in the Middle East. They played right into Bin Laden's hands. The more bombs we drop, the more power we exercise, the greater the threat we pose; the more people there will be to oppose us with a fanaticism we will find difficult to match.
Just like Viet Nam.
Attacking Iraq to "fix" the Middle East was like trying to douse a fire with napalm.
