All, Despite some compelling arguments for it, I still feel that, although I would dearly love to be able to play co-ed with my student team, it just doesn't work (and we've done it) because *at the moment* the way the men and women on the team play just isn't compatible. Who knows if this is because the way men and women play is fundamentally different, because of male (particularly some student males, sorry lads) attitudes towards female players, or because of a difference in skill level. I just don't think it is currently feasible to play co-ed at student level, something else has to be done first. And it isn't just about women putting more effort in between practices, although that would benefit any player .
It doesn't matter if only the minority of women feel unconfident or undervalued, if the problem exists at all it needs to be addressed by all teams at all levels (even if the players are all men!). Just a reminder that I am a student women player, relatively new to the game (Hedge!) and speak from my own experience, other women may feel differently about all this. I'm also standing for election to the UKU board so that I can try to voice concerns of student players, particularly female ones, to the larger Ultimate playing community. Cheers, Anna.
