Hi

I completely agree with the comments Dale Walker made that recruiting new
juniors and younger ultimate players is extremely difficult.
I am a Junior and 2 years ago an ultimate team was set up in my school in
Sheffield. When i joined the team i got stick from my friends who couldnt
quite see how playing frisbee was a real sport.
When we have tried to advertise within the school for new players the
response is people either think it is "sad" or are already committed to
playing in another school team.
Another problem we have is the lack of support from schools. Ultimate
Frisbee is not on the curriculum and therefore is not allocated a time slot
for training in the sports hall. This means on the night we train if any
other sport is being played we are forced into the small gym.
I think in order for the sport to become more widely known in the UK it
needs to be introduced to children at primary school level.
On the subject of introducing scouts to the game I am a Cub Scout leader in
sheffield and have played the sport with the cubs a couple of times but it
is hard to make it a regular event as meetings only take place for 1hr 1/2 a
week and other activities have to be done.

Joe,
Sheffield
