Hey Britdisc,
I think we all understand and envy the fact that London has so many
ultimate players and sympathisers but it's simply not feasible for those of us who
live in Scotland to fork out for a night like this, also my girlfriend would kill me,
even if we really really want to go.
Perhaps the floor space could be organised so everyone, or at least
most people get free accomodation. Or maybe the Scots could organise a bus trip down
at the next scottish tournament, hey that's Stirling Tune Up, lets all go to that,
   Mike (Stirling)

Dear BritDisc

Just read email concerning the lack of interest for the awards dinner,
personally i think this is due to the location rather than people not
wanting to attend.

Why was London chosen as the location? It seems sensible to me that any
major conference and awards dinner of this type should be held in a location
which is central to the entire community (between say Birmingham and
York/Newcastle) so that it is easily accessible by a greater number of
players. Add to that the fact the by holding it in London you are instantly
adding to the cost of things (travel, accommodation, beer) and it seems that
a poor decision was made.

I and others I know would of loved to attend by I simply can not justify the
cost implications of going - something to bear in mind for next year maybe.

Matt

PS> The Scottish teams have had to fork out more than anyone else to travel
to tournaments etc - so to ask them to fund another trip down south seems a
tad unfair

I must say I agree with Matt. If the members of the
UKU get to vote on who represents them surely we
should be consulted on where something like and awards
dinner should take place, some where like Birmingham
would be perfect as it litteraly is in the centre of
the country, plus London prices are a joke, especially
when you have to add on transport, accomadation and
the like. So why not having a bidding system for the
awards similar to the tours and see if it works??

Sorry to those outside Oxfordshire,

I emailed a few months back and some of you were nice enough to get back to
me, but now I'm here it seems I can't contact anyone - please can someone
tell me if there's a practice around this previous hot-bed of Ultimate?!

I know there's a Golf competition this weekend (I'm now in halls just over
the road from the park in question!) but I might not be around to see anyone
there, if you could email me with details of what the deal is it'd be great,
cheers. Also, I'm at Brookes for the year so if a student type could let me
know the details of the Uni scene that'd be great too,

Cheers

DUDE!!

Chiiiiill Winston.

It's pretty cool that an end of year Awards Ceremony &
Dinner is even happening this year. I personally
think it's a great move towards the increased
transparency & involvement of the wider Ultimate
community in UK Ultimate maters.

Shame that everyone, who wants to come, can't come.
Let's remember that London has the most number of
Ultimate players of any one city in the UK. It also
has a wide range of
A+BTourOpen/Womens/Mixed/Junior/and University
Ultimate players. Not a completely illogical choice
for a first Conference then, no?

Then, if this event is successful, perhaps one will
need a 'Tour-style' bidding process for next year's
event. But please, let's not complain two weeks
beforehand that we don't like the Location of the
event!

Also: London players! Stop being lazy ultimate
players & get your tickets for this event NOW if you
havent already done so. It would be a real shame if
of the several hundred of you based in this city, we
could not fill up a conference & dinner hall twice
over!! You like dinner, ya? Me too. See you there!

SWEET!

Much love,
Alia Xxx

ps - btw, it's only a fiver to take a Megabus from
Birmingham to London, and even less from Bournmouth to
London. Matt/Jam, I hope you both still consider
coming along. I'm sure crash space can be organised!

Guess what, kids?

I think Alia's right. So there.

There are times when decisions have to be made quite quickly and as much fun as these
BD discussions are it's not always practical to use that option.

So, ok, this year we've chosen London for the AGM and dinner. With the way that
Ultimate works we all know that it would never be in the same place next time round -
for all the reasons that you have pointed out - or ever again.

As with everything we have to start somewhere, but, if you really want to make a point
(or several) why not come to the AGM and have a delectable day of discussions, dinner,
drinks and dancing. Doesn't get much better than that. And DJ Tom Styles will be on
the decks...

C'mon what are you waiting for?!?

Char.xx

And if you're really nice to those people who live in London you might even get a bed
for the night.

Thanks Matt,

It is always good to actually get feedback - even when it is negative.
Unfortunately it is too late to change anything this year and it's a shame
we didn't get more feedback earlier in the year. The dinner/conference was
first suggested in the Member Update sent on the 14th March this year
(www.ukultimate.com/member_update/march_2004.aspx). We will take your
suggestion on board for next year and ask for more venue suggestions. It is
impossible to keep everyone happy all of the time and all we can do is learn
and keep trying to do things better.

In the meantime I hope that those of you that can make the effort to travel
to the dinner will do so! As Alia says there are more than enough Ultimate
players in or near London for us to put together a really good night. Some
of us are travelling down from Edinburgh and are looking forward to the
first ever Awards dinner.

Anyway, hopefully see many of you at the conference if not the dinner!

Barry

PS If you have registered on ukultimate.com and you are not getting the
monthly Member Update emails then please check that your email address is
