Quick reply on topic, since I'm duty bound to consider the other Tour emails more thoroughly.

As the ukultimate page on the Tour Rules specifies, there are obvious positional bonuses for 1st, 9th & 17th, and then there are minor positional bonuses for ending your weekend with a win, or a run of wins. And then, in the 9-16 bracket, it alternates between 9 & 11. As I mentioned above, I've always assumed this is to reward you for winning your last game, or your last run of games. When having a discussion about the finalists decision not to play the Final of Mixed Tour 1 2004 [available on my pages if you care that much], I tried to express the point that there is greater net value in winning your Quarter or Semi than your Final, because it assures you a certain bracket of higher worth. Conversely, the U8 points system we have currently attempts to recognise that there's a smaller difference in value between winning your quarter and losing the rest than losing your quarter and winning the rest than simply losing your last game. Everyone's been in that 'we came as high as we could given X happened' situation, thinking that had you only got a shot at that team on the other side of the 4/5 barrier, you might have come fourth. ! Well, since you maybe didn't get a shot at them, you only get 8 less points than the person above you, where the team you beat got 12 less points than you. I hope that makes sense, and that I've captured Si's intent when he came up with the system.
