Hi Dean I'm sure other people feel the same way. And I suspect a reasonable number of people prefer this approach.
I certainly agree that Nationals needs to be special - and what we've been trying to do in that direction is make it part of EUCS. Hence the 2 dutch teams in the open division this year (there is also a dutch and a belgian team in the women's division). I guess there is a question about whether this is really working - but I think that is a different topic. The "downside" to this is that we have to pay more attention to ensuring the format provides a fair system for competing for the top 4 places - which in turn led us to remove the knockout format, and also separate the teams into two divisions. I disagree with your comment about whether losing 1v32 type games is good or bad for development of ultimate in the UK (I think its neutral) and am happy to continue that discussion if you like.
