My related 2 cent (in defence of Nationals costs): Last year (it seems a lot longer!) I ran a lot of indoor tournaments & a couple of small outdoor ones. I did a fair bit of research in trying to figure out how much to charge people. I didn't make enough money to make me want to host more tournaments on a regular basis although due to the current lack of bids for UKU Uni SE tournaments I've got in touch with venues again. Anyway back to the point:
On average the cost per player of tournaments in the UK (including Tour) is about 1/3 less than European tournaments BEFORE you factor in extra costs for the per player gifts / food some of them provide. It was hard to compare it with the US where there are huge numbers of smaller, local, cheap tournaments and lots of big national expensive tournaments, and the rest of the world ... well I didn't bother checking ... So, as far as I can tell we're currently paying very little for some good tournaments and about average for a great tournament (like Nationals). I'd happily pay more and if there was food on offer like at the weekend I'd happily pay more for it to be included in the costs. Luke T ps: I did the analysis based on the tournaments costs I could dig up from ffindr and tournament websites from the 2010 / 2011 season, Indoors & Outdoors, based on average team sizes for each event / division. If someone wants to take a look I can dig it out and send it on :-) On 31 August 2012 19:28, Si Hill, UK Ultimate <[email protected]> wrote: > Hello > > For information on the fees at UKU Nationals 2012 please see this link on my > almost-never-used blog area of the website: > http://www.ukultimate.com/blogs/si_hill/costs_uku_nationals_2012 > > Thanks > > Si > > > Si Hill, UK Ultimate > [email protected] > Tel: 0844 8045949 > Skype: sihill22 > > > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On > Behalf Of Simon Barlow > Sent: 27 August 2012 21:19 > To: [email protected] > Subject: [BD] Player fee for Nationals > > Hi all, > > Well just been to nationals for the first time in many years, and have to say > am confused as to why there was a player fee and team fee? > > As for the £20 per player fee on top of the £30 for the team fee there was no > free gift per player or anything for the team.
