You don't need to officially withdraw it, and I'm sorry to hear that you won't 
be under consideration.  I absolutely do appreciate your honesty, though, as it 
bodes exceptionally well to your character and work ethic.

I hope you still find a way to get involved with open source.  Perhaps you'll 
consider jumping into BRL-CAD development for one of your school projects, an 
evening hobby, or perhaps next year's GSoC.  Regardless, it's been a pleasure.
