Be warned, that there is a *lot* more yeast cells in a packet of dry yeast. I don't have the numbers here, but I seem to recall a factor of 1000, or thereabouts. In practice this means that a dry yeast (especially if properly rehydradted) will get a healthy fermentation going pretty fast, but a liquid yeast, even when fully puffed, will need a starter, or take somewhat more time to get going. As to starter materials, pasteurized apple juice comes in nice size packets, and contains about the right amount of sugars and other valuable things. Drink half of it, and pitch the yeast in. Probably not as good a base as proper wort, but certainly better than plain sugar solution! -Heikki -- Heikki Levanto heikki at indexdata dot dk "In Murphy We Turst"
