I have used some sort of decoction mashing, when my mash tun was too
small, and I could not add more hot water to get the temperature (back)
to ideal... 

No idea what it did to my efficiency, as I don't always even bother
calculating that out afterwards. I suppose it did do something to the
taste, but it was so early in my career that I can not say anything
certain... 

But turned out to be beer anyway.
