I used to disconnect my picnic tap and rinse it with water. But then I
installed a proper tap, and that is too clumsy to take off and rinse. I
ended up with a policy that if I haven't taken beer for a few days, then
I sacrifice half a glass of beer to the beer gods before I fill my own
glass. The gods seem to like this, as my beer has tasted pretty good
lately.

Nothing special about it. It produces a little bit more sediment, so
when you open a keg, you may have to sacrifice three glasses of beer
instead of one or two.

When I want to be careful (which is quite often) I take the fittings
apart and drop them in a small bucket with bleach (klorin), and fill the
keg with the same stuff. If especially dirty, I use hot water, and let
it stand over night, but normally a shorter time works. Rinse with
water, several times. When in a hurry, or feeling lazy, I don't bother
disassembling anything... Just before use I put a few liters of Iodophor
solution in the keg, shake around, and pump a bit out with CO2.
This is what seems to work for me. Probably you will find your own
compromises. Don't worry too much,
it will be beer anyway
