My Thoughts about Certification.
Just a few catagories and 'skills' which came to mind:
BSD Managers:
- knowing strength of various BSDs
- are aware of future directions, and differences between the various branches
- know the "proven" setups (what application setups are great; freebsd + apache, or openbsd + pf , or netbsd ... )
....
BSD Administrators:
- can install and manage a simple bsd machine
- adding users, email, website
- general knowleadge about compiling, patching, package systems, ....
- knows his logs, tools, and sources (mailinglists and websites with critical BSD info )
- some knowhow with resource limits/management
- knows his security tools and their application
....
BSD Intergrator:
- gets respect world wide, all hail BSD Intergrators ;)
- knows how to design a network applying the right bsd for the right job
- thus also knows how to make the BSDs co-operate and co-exists next to eachother
- knows a thing or two about hardware
- extensive knowleadge (and experience?) with compiling the whole release, patching, tracking -stable or other branches with cvs
- has the ability to setup systems which wont run out of diskspace (big logfiles) or other problems new users might enoucnter
- is capable of implementing resouce handling and monitoring it
- knows his security and can test installed security applications (proof packet filter blocks, scrubs, nats, logs, emails, whatever..)
These are the Main Catagories.
Users can choose to take certification for all the BSDs, or One. ( *BSD Manager or FreeBSD Manager or OpenBSD Manager )
Same applies for BSD Administrators and BSD Intergrators.
Of course some catagories would apply for all BSDs.
Well these are my first thoughts.
