Pot. Kettle. Black. Playing a numbers game is hardly a helpful reply, given
this program's own scarcity of quantifiable demand.
Numbers are one way to quantify demand.
Please see the Usage Survey Report which is currently available in 3
languages. It describes the data received from 4330 responders in 6
languages over an 18 day period.
Please see the Task Analysis Survey Report which details the data received
from 637 responders to a very long and comprehensive survey.
See also the 80+ translators who donate their time to the project. See the
monthly newsletter detailing the number of subscribers to the 2 mailing
lists as well as the detailed webstats. We have been quantifying demand
since project start and will continue to do so.
In any case, the comment is completely missing my point. I'm not asking
anyone to consider my suggestions _because_ of the poll; I mentioned it only
as being a catalyst for deeper questions. Yet instead of addressing the real
issues, the response is to attack the premise under which they were raised.
That kind of deflection is unfortunate.
Since the real issues were not repeated, I will address the 2 that stuck
in my mind:
Regarding Vue/Prometric: don't assume that our business model will include
these. We are well aware of the size of our market and the price costs
involved for different test delivery methods. We are also committed (see
our Bylaws) to make a globally affordable exam that uses, where feasible,
Open Source products. This is very different from the LPI business model
both in size of audience and philosophy.
Regarding books: this is something the BSDCG has discussed and we are
still working out the pros/cons as well as accreditation and conflict of
interest issues.
My question to the list: Would you prefer to have a certification
available with official study guides available shortly thereafter or have
the guides available before the certification exam?
