At the risk of repeating myself, we are NOT talking about the files that
are under source code control. We are ONLY talking about the files
        CVS/Entries
        CVS/Repository
        CVS/Root
and no other files of any name, kind, shape, sort or venue at all.

These are plain text files. Client programs should not stumble over
white space (consiting of \n or \r or \r\n) line endings in those
three files.
