Follow-up Comment #13:
The main barrier to proceeding with this is less the lack of portable
scriptage to throw at it than a nice, small, GPL-compatibly-licensed,
image-bearing PDF we can use to incorporate the fix into our test suite--this
would help detect if poppler changes its behavior on us.
I'll see if I can contrive one out of 'gnu.eps' (already generated as part of
the build), but if I don't update this ticket soon, a contribution would be
appreciated--at present I haven't yet rotated off of me(7)'s bug list.
