Follow-up Comment #3, bug #67202 (group groff): I have sometimes noticed different (usually worse) rendering in gv as well. I don't know whether this is because gv is buggy, or because the PDF specification has some ambiguity/undefinedness that lets different viewers interpret the same input slightly differently.
My assumption has been bugs in gv; a major point of the PDF standard is to
produce the same results in any compliant interpreter. But I also know there
can be legitimate differences in appearance if fonts are not embedded, so this
goal is not absolute.
Deri, do you (or someone else) have more (any) knowledge?
