I guess that GRUB can boot FreeBSD via /boot/loader even in 4.0,
right? If that's correct, is there any good reason why GRUB should
load the kernel image directly? IMO, GRUB shouldn't load FreeBSD
kernel directly, but should load /boot/loader and transfer control to
it instead, because they don't think the compatibility in the
bootstrap process is important at all, AFAIK. While GRUB is expected
to load an arbitrary version of FreeBSD fine, it is enough for their
boot loader to load a certain version since it is bundled up with a
certain release. So the current situation is unsuitable for GRUB. If
they don't guarantee even the compatibility about /boot/loader, we
might have to give up the FreeBSD support.
