Yes, booting FreeBSD via /boot/loader is stable method.
As far as I tried, GRUB does not disturb /boot/loader.
And, I completely agree with the point:
"it's not time for GRUB to write a code supporting
 the direct boot of FreeBSD kernel".

Sorry for my previous pointless mail.
The point I should have written was... GRUB is not responsible
with the ATA HDD driver trouble which Mr. Takehiro found.

I suppose Mr. Takehiro was trying to boot FreeBSD-4.0 directly
from GRUB and launch on ATA HDD (if not, please correct, and
ignore following).

He wrote his suggestion as

I think, GRUB does not descriminate ATA and (E)IDE,
and GRUB is not responsible with the trouble.

A question to Mr. Takehiro:

        using the official /boot/loader,
        your FreeBSD-4.0 kernel launches on ATA HDD driver?
