Hi I have seen some months ago a bug report saying grub was hanging when trying to boot from harddisk, but everything ok when booting from floppy. I have the same problem, and I boot everyday from floppy disk, however, I recently discovered that Grub wasn't just stuck : it displays "Grub loading stage 1.5." and waits for about 30 seconds, then displays "Grub loading, please wait..." and waits another 30 seconds before displaying the menu and after that everything is ok.
