Follow-up Comment #6, bug #42026 (project grub):

I am having the same issue on Gentoo using GRUB 2.02~beta2. SOL works just
fine in Linux but GRUB refuses to use the port. This is a fairly new machine
with a new installation (2 months give or take) and it has never had an older
GRUB version installed.

grub> serial --unit=5 --speed=115200
error: serial port `com5' isn't found.
grub> serial --port=0xf0e0 --speed=115200
error: serial port `portf0e0` isn't found.

# dmesg | grep ttyS5

[ 1.645086] 0000:00:16.3: ttyS5 at I/O 0xf0e0 (irq = 19, base_baud =
115200) is a 16550A
[ 2.011451] console [ttyS5] enabled

# sha1sum /usr/portage/distfiles/grub-2.02~beta2.tar.xz

/usr/portage/distfiles/grub-2.02~beta2.tar.xz

I also double checked that the fix from
0eb8ffb1f579d4507d78a822c843e334417f9ba1 is indeed present in the source code.
