Summary: Grub menu not showing during startup Project: GNU GRUB Submitted by: chrysopras Submitted on: Fri 18 Dec 2020 12:20:12 PM UTC Category: Booting Severity: Major Priority: 5 - Normal Item Group: Software Error Status: None Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Originator Name: Martin Originator Email: bigb...@gmx.de Open/Closed: Open Release: Release: other Discussion Lock: Any Reproducibility: Every Time Planned Release: None _______________________________________________________ Details: Initially in grub2 the configuration is set to GRUB_GFXMODE=auto. On several systems grub seems to be unable to autodetect the proper resolution. (In grub console "videoinfo" returned no (!) output on my system, a thinkpad x201) After altering to GRUB_GFXMODE=1280x800 which is the known resolution of my screen, my lovely bootmenu was visible again. Formerly grub's default configuration seemed to be GRUB_TERMINAL= console, which now has been commented out. That leads to a nice output (as grub themes are supported) if it works. If not, it leads into the dark... As most users are not encountering problems with graphic mode it would be nice for the few (?) others to provide a console fallback mode, if the autodetect fails. _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: <https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?59720> _______________________________________________ Message sent via Savannah https://savannah.gnu.org/
