I can see the point in this, but i can't agree with this idea.
I've ported ported gsl for the digital mars compiler (wich is also free
(not open source) if you don't mind the idde), my last problem to solve
is the use of "extern inline" wich follows gcc implementation, so i
loose some performance wrt gcc.
I think that having a wider user base would surely benefit the gnu
scientific library (for a lot of reasons: more beta testing, to gain a
status of "de facto standard" (like blas), ....) and i don't think that
much people would start using gcc/linux just for the gsl.
So helping other people to port the gsl to their favourite compiler/idde
is'nt wasted time.
All this obviously IMHO.
