Macs don't come with GNU make, and GNU make appears to require a
different make in order to install it.
On Mac OS X 10.4.11 PPC, I get:
$ make --version
GNU Make 3.80

There is NO warranty; not even for MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A

$ which make
/usr/bin/make
