#1828: Assassin doesn't close packagekitd anymore and so blocks opkg

Assassin starts packagekitd but doesn't close it if itself is closed.
This makes other interfaces like the non-gui opkg unable to work. This
patch should fix it:
om-assassin-read-only/src$ diff assassin.c assassin.c.old
137d136
< system("killall packagekitd");
I couldn't test it because I couldn't manage to compile assassin on my neo
at all..

strace prints
SYS_286 (vs. getsockname)
SYS_290 (vs. sendto)
SYS_297 (vs. recvmsg)
and likely other syscalls are missing too.
an updated strace would be nice to have...

Comment(by jurg):
for the echo (buzzing appeared to be less as well) i tweaked the alsa
settings. the resulting scenario's are attached and work for me (my
friends 'on the other end' are not complaining anymore.) (only gsmhandset
is changed, i think.)

#1766: GSM Antenna Signal

after suspending/resuming the gsm signal indicator shows some signal,
allowing me to place calls and send sms'.
(i do not (yet) expect a fully functioning phone with this distribution,
and i am very enthusiastic about some of the interface features in
om2008.8. but for the moment i switched to qtopia and use my freerunner as
my regular phone. i miss a lot of functionality i would like to experiment
with, and later develop for. so either qtopia adds the features i am
waiting for and/or becomes a major platform for app development or
om2008.8 delivers on its promises...)

#1267: Strong echo when calling a Neo from another phone
-------------------------------+--------------------------------------------

Priority: high | Milestone:
Component: Audio | Version: unspecified
Severity: normal | Resolution:
Keywords: audio, echo | Blocking:

Comment(by degraffenried):
I have tried the attachment above and copied it to
/usr/share/openmoko/scenarios/gsmhandset.state on my freerunner, but it
didn't work. The next step I tried was adjusting settings in the program
alsamixer while on a call. The best way to do this is to log into the
phone from a desktop or laptop and call alsomixer so you have a large
screen. I adjusted the volume of the item labeled Mono until the person on
the other line could still hear me fine, but didn't get an echo when they
talked, and this also solved a problem with the buzzing that they heard
(ticket [http://docs.openmoko.org/trac/ticket/883]). This does not keep
the settings for the next call, so I learned to change the
gsmhandset.state file - there is only one entry I had to play with until I
got it right. I changed control.5 ('Mono Playback Volume') to have the
value 85. Try a few more settings to see if you can clear it up any more.
I don't know if this solves the issue completely - but it helped me quite
a bit - and perhaps helps lead to a better solution.
