#2037: Qtopia Crashes on Dialing after selecting a Contact
---------------------+------------------------------------------------------
Reporter: Treviño | Owner: zecke
Type: defect | Status: new
Priority: high | Milestone:
Component: Qtopia | Version: Om2008.9-dev
Severity: major | Keywords:

---------------------+------------------------------------------------------
I've just recompiled qtopia-x11 from git
d6b1877f90a3d97811eebeaac9910ff2a643c010 but I continue to get a but that
I had also using my previous builds:
If I open the Dialer or the SMS writer and I select a contact to call/send
sms, as soon I confirm my action (i.e. I press "Dial" or I confirm for
sending the message) qpe crashes.
The crashes happen every time that is involved an object recently modified
(exactly on the above git commit), but the modification that is there
can't affect (I guess) this since when qpe crashes the ContactListSelector
should have already been finished its work.
I don't remember it exactly, but had this issue also before of doing that
patch.
I just hope I'm not the only with this issue, since I've not found
something similar here...
This is the only output I get from logread.

I've tried to debug it, but I really can't understand why all this
happens, and the above logread doesn't help me at all...

Comment(by vnevoa):
From the conversations in #1832 and the Community ML (which you were a
part) I can see that Treviño has apparently not submitted a source patch
yet, although he did upload a patched binary which people tested and
confirmed working. He removed the binary at the community's request but
failed to upload the code yet (AFAIK).
So, time to ping Treviño again, I guess... I'll mail him, just in case.
In case you decide to leave this ticket open, maybe you could change my
title to something less misleading? like "USSD Service Messages with
Unicode not translated"... Thank you. :)

Comment(by zecke):
A small debug hint:
- compile Qtopia for your host (see README.x11) and run it in valgrind
- use ulimit -c 9999999 on your device and run qpe from the shell
- copy the "core" file to your desktop
- bitbake gdb-cross
- use arm-angstrom-linux-gdb qpe core
- type bt it will likely tell you something interesting

Comment(by Treviño):
Well, the problem is in USSD parsing and this is due to the last change to
UCS2 format... I'm quite near to fix the issue, however another soulution
would be putting back the IRA or GSM charset after that the modem has read
the SIM contacts.
This would be easier but I don't know if it will be the best solution.

#2038: Qtopia USSD requests support
-------------------------+--------------------------------------------------
Reporter: Treviño | Owner: zecke
Type: enhancement | Status: new
Priority: normal | Milestone:
Component: Qtopia | Version: Om2008.9-dev
Severity: normal | Keywords: HasPatch
Blockedby: | Reproducible: always
Blocking: |
-------------------------+--------------------------------------------------
Finally I'm able to post the patch I've done for supporting USSD requests
in qtopia. It isn't perfect but it works in all the situations I've tried
and works also with the UCS2 codec (recently set as the default one).
> Added basic support for Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD)
requests following the rules stated in 3GPP TS 22.090 document.
> This fixes also the dialing of numbers containing '*' or '#' but that
don't match the USSD rules removing also some duplications of the Qtopia
code. I've also moved the parsing of these numbers in qmodemcall, this
will allow to remember these special calls in the dialed numbers (imho
it's better, but it could be easily moved back to gsmkeyactions).
>
> To support the UCS2 codec (and others I figure), I've added a small
workaround to make the modem use always the GSM (using the IRA would have
been the same) codec for placing USSD requests, while it should be able to
get them in any format.
>
> This should fix the Openmoko bugs #1226, #1832, #2029.
