Unfortunately the builtin screen doesn't function except in short
sporadic bursts, so I can't confirm that's the case, but I have hazy
memories of flipping a setting like that in the BIOS.

Dropping the read permission and restarting sndiod does indeed let audio
play.

Since this is likely an issue of my own making, I'll just work around
the issue until I finally buy new hardware one of these years. Thanks
