@fcuzzocrea So usually if the processor/BSP don't handle unaligned accesses 
(and there's no M-Mode emulation for it), it will just pass `-mstrict-align` 
flag. I wonder if you tried that and got the same issue? If it works fine with 
this flag, I'd drop this commit and instead add the flag to the BSP build 
options, instead of changing shared code.
