Dale,

DSM-IV are not among the code sets identified by HIPAA. True the code is the
same as the ICD-9 code, however Mental Health has altered/changed the
descriptions to meet mental health needs. Users of DSM-IV must map to ICD-9
where appropriate and request new ICD-9 codes as needed.

I need some clarification on use of DMS IV (Mental Disorder) codes under
HIPAA. Does anybody know if they are duplicates of ICD-9-CM codes? Since
they are not listed as HIPAA codes, what are others using instead? Can
someone update me on this? I am confused.
