Yes, hyperlinking butterfly names to species pages is a work in progress, and I hope to have everything linked soon. Until this is finished, people can search for the names in the search box and reach the species pages that way.
Yuwaraj is absolutely correct that we not only need contributions of pictures from people, we also need hands to format the submitted pictures. Yuwaraj and team are currently overburdened with formatting a lot of images. So it would be great if at least some people are willing to format their pictures themselves, or volunteer to format images contributed by others. In case you are willing to do this, Gaurav has written an article about formatting images for the website using Photoshop, which should be useful to anyone: http://ifoundbutterflies.net/general-information/formatting-images-for-the-butterflies-of-india-website General guidelines for contributing images are at: http://ifoundbutterflies.net/general-information/contributing-media-files-photos-and-videos-to-butterflies-of-india Cheers, Krushnamegh. ________________________________ From: Yuwaraj Gurjar <[email protected]> Reply-To: butterflyindia <[email protected]> Date: Wed, 16 Feb 2011 22:31:53 -0500 To: butterflyindia <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [ButterflyIndia] New species pages and the page history on BOI This is wow wow. This way you can see at a glance what species pages have been created, and visit the latest species pages. The page URL is: http://ifoundbutterflies.net/species-pages/history-of-species-pages-on-butterflies-of-india-website The latest four names have been hyperlinked to the species pages, I will add links to the rest soon. FYI, the latest two species pages are: http://ifoundbutterflies.net/5-hesperioidea/sovia-hyrtacus http://ifoundbutterflies.net/284-aeromachus/aeromachus-dubius We have also created a new module in the left bar called “No. of species pages: nn”, below the “News and Updates” box. It shows the updated number of species pages (currently at 156), and is linked to the above page. BTW, we had slightly over 13,000 visits to the website from Jan. 2010 to 24 Jan. 2011. In the past three weeks, since Ullasa and I whipped the website in shape, the number of visits has shot up to over 22,000. I am sure the number of visits will grow more sharply as more and more species pages and photographs get added. From what I have seen so far, it appears that a lot of you have been visiting the website, and that it has been useful to you. Let us know if this is true because it is good to receive feedback once in a while. This will also be especially encouraging to our contributors, who contribute their images without expecting any tangible returns, and to our three website teams (Butterfly Biology, Media Management, and Web Designing), who work tirelessly to identify and format images, create species pages, improve content and functionality of the website, and so on.
