Dear Vijay and Kishen, Thanks for your interest in this topic and for bringing it up on the group. Ullasa and I have been sequencing material from India and you must have seen Ullasa's paper on bushbrowns (Mycalesis and allied genera). I am currently sequencing all Indian Papilio and all Asian Menelaides (subgenus of Papilio that includes polytes, memnon, helenus, castor, etc.). There will be more of similar studies in coming years, and other teams are also getting into sequencing Indian species. I have just started a major project on Eastern Himalayan butterflies, starting with my Sikkim work, and I will try to collect as many genera and species from this area as possible in coming years. I hope to have majority of genera represented within the next couple of years. I hope that at least some of you will join us in collecting specimens for this ambitious project.

Institutions like NCBS and IISc already have the infrastructure for carrying out such projects. I believe people are already working towards it. Dr. Kunte and Dr. Kodandaramaiah should have specific details.
