Dear All,
I have the following suggestions regarding encouraging students: 1. The idea of members willing to contribute is an excellent one. During the 2007 Goa meet, during the planning stage, I had floated the idea of accepting external funding, which was rightly shot down since we did not want any company to build its "green" image at our cost. But there were students and few youth who did not fit into the definition of student who wanted to attend. Fortunately, an individual came forward and donated Rs. 10,000/- without expecting anything in return. I could invite 5 students free of cost. Since the meet, butterfly watching has picked up in Goa with the likes of Omkar, Pankaj and Ramesh doing excellent field work. I have shared this story with Dr. Amol and Yuwaraj and happy to share with all today. 2. During the Goa meet we saved around Rs. 4,500/- which was donated to the Scholarship fund via Dr. Amol. I am sure after every meet we end up saving some amount which can be deposited to an account managed by a senior member. 3. Necessarily there has to be participation of local youth at every meet. It is a huge boost to the young to meet up with experts and also network with like minded people. I tried doing that and it worked. The local organizer should take efforts to identify and invite such interested youth. What is the point of having meets in remote corners of the country if the local cannot take forward the documentations. 4. The local organizer of the previous meet should be invited to the next meet free of cost (except travel) to encourage others to be local organizers. 5. Finally, there cannot be a better way to encourage students than accompanying the likes of Krushnamegh to the field. Thanks KK for the offer. I consider myself to be a student, though I may not fit into the definition :-)) regards Parag Rangnekar http://payvata.blogspot.com/ "Man is but a small strand in the web of life, what he does to the web he does to himself....." ________________________________ From: Gaurav Agavekar <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, October 10, 2011 6:39 PM Subject: Re: [ButterflyIndia] Encouraging students to join us wow, that's a great initiative, keep those funds coming! :) it will definitely help students like us. cheers!
